The supermodel and entrepreneur will buy i-D Magazine from the bankrupt Vice Media.
Kloss oversaw an investing group that bought W Magazine in 2020. The sale of i-D was managed by Kloss's recently dissolved business, Bedford Media, of which she is the chairwoman. The agreement's terms were kept a secret.
Alastair McKimm, who has been in charge of i-D since 2019, will take on new responsibilities as global editor-in-chief and chief creative officer.
Vice Media, which bought i-D in 2012, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year. Its creditors, led by Fortress Investment Group, bought the company in June for $350 million.
Terry Jones, a former art director for British Vogue, launched ID in 1980. Numerous photographers who would go on to have illustrious careers in the profession, such as Terry Richardson, Juergen Teller, and Mario Testino, were among those he commissioned work from. Additionally, the London-based publication rose to prominence as a voice for street fashion. (Jones left upon the purchase of Vice.)
Josh Kushner, a principal at Thrive Capital and brother of Jared Kushner, is the husband of Kloss, and together they have been progressively accumulating a commercial and charitable portfolio. She is the creator of the charity organization Kode with Klossy, which offers girls free summer coding programs. She has collaborated on tech projects with companies including Adidas, Roblox, and Carolina Herrera. She has made investments in several digital firms, one of which incorporates IDs with digital authentication into clothing.
She has a wide range of contacts in Hollywood, fashion, and business. Her partners on the W purchase included Lewis Hamilton, the racing driver; Kaia Gerber, a model; Aryeh B. Bourkoff of LionTree; Forerunner Ventures' Kirsten Green; and Dara Treseder, who is currently the chief marketing officer at Autodesk. Jason Blum founded Blumhouse Productions.
