Chan is the latest Canadian to make SI Swimsuit's "first" list. Model Ashley Callingbull from Alberta was the first Indigenous woman to participate in the issue in 2022.
The size-inclusion campaigner, who is also the first LGBT plus-size model, has worked as a fashion writer for Vogue, Interview, and Glamour's fashion features department, where she specialized in plus-size fashion. But that's just the beginning of her incredible résumé.
Additionally, Chan founded her own inclusive luxury women's wear company called Henning, worked with high-end designers like Vera Wang, Christian Siriano, Valentino, and Chanel, and served as an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association and a member of the Model Alliance's advisory board. What a busy person you are!
Since authenticity is so important to her, she believes that all of her roles—fashion model, influencer, editor, entrepreneur, etc.—complement one another and "make those who consume her work feel powerful, seen, and celebrated."
The Canadian model will make her Swimsuit Issue debut next month in the annual publication. SI has also recently introduced 2023 rookies Melissa Wood-Tepperberg, Ellie Thumann, and Sixtine Rouyre.
