"When you think about the weight of the taboo of divorce, to say, ‘No, it’s not bad — actually, maybe it’s cool,’ she said."

Model Emily Ratajkowski, who was married for four years before her marriage to Sebastian Bear-McClard ended, has been open about her divorce.

The former couple divorced in 2022 amid rumors that Sebastian had been unfaithful. They have one kid, Sylvester Apollo Bear, who was born in 2021.

Emily has now opened out to Vogue Australia, claiming she refuses to regard divorce as a failure and that there is no danger in 'glamourizing' divorce.

The model discussed how divorce and separation should be viewed differently in today's society.

Emily was frank about marriage in general and pointed to societal shifts as a major factor in the possibility that more women are divorcing at a younger age.

"It’s such a taboo and there’s such stigma around it. But ultimately, our world has changed so much because women are making, if not the same amount of pay, more money than their partners," she said.

"And then there's the burden of emotional and physical responsibilities, as well as domestic labor." Marriage isn't always as fair as it used to be, or as it was once thought to be. I'm not sure if that was ever a fair arrangement, so walking away from that s***ty deal shouldn't be considered disgraceful."

Emily believes there is no real danger in romanticizing divorce because children frequently "suffer" in dysfunctional relationships.

"I can say that my son has never seen me get angry or fight with anyone I care about." I'd like to choose or have a partner with whom I don't have any disagreements. But that isn't always the case, and you don't necessarily realize that until you've brought someone else into the world," she explained.

A year ago, the model posted a now-viral TikTok in which she said it was "chic" to be divorced before the age of 30.

"Being in your 20s is the trenches, there is nothing better than being in your 30s, still being hot, maybe having a little bit of your own money, figuring out what you want to do with your life, and having tried that married fantasy and realizing that maybe it's not all it's cracked up to be," she was quoted as saying in the video.

"And then, you've got your whole life still ahead of you."
