It takes something very special to steal the show at the Met Gala, one of fashion's greatest evenings, and at this year's affair, Priyanka Chopra made sure all eyes were on her in one of the most exquisite (and pricey) ensembles of the evening.
The actress walked the red carpet in a monochromatic Valentino gown as a fitting homage to the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who served as the inspiration for this year's theme.
However, Chopra's Bulgari diamonds were the main attraction of her outfit rather than her dress. She donned sparkling earrings and a high-end necklace made of platinum and diamonds as a tribute to Rome, the city where the renowned jeweler was born. Its interlocking diamonds modeled after the bay laurel wreaths that former emperors formerly wore perfectly portray the Italian city.
The Bulgari Laguna Blu diamond, a single stone in the necklace, is astonishingly expensive, costing an estimated $25 million (about £22.8 million). The brilliant oceanic blue colour of the 11.16-carat gemstone, which gives it its name, was initially set as a ring in 1970. It is the largest Bulgari blue diamond ever offered for sale by Sotheby's.
Fewer than 10 blue diamonds larger than 10 carats have been sold at auction globally in the last few decades, making Chopra's necklace a truly historic piece. Blue is one of the rarest coloured diamonds.
